Any information you require before you attend your first appointment will be emailed or posted as appropriate.

On arrival at your first visit, our reception team will greet you, point out the facilities and offer you a complimentary tea/coffee/water. You will be asked to fill out a confidential medical questionnaire. This is essential to allow us to treat you safely. You can then proceed with your oral health examination.

What is it?

Your oral health examination shows how healthy your mouth is. After the examination, you and your dentist can discuss the findings and can plan together how best to proceed with any problems.

What will happen?

As well as looking in your mouth your dentist will ask you some questions about your general health, your mouth, whether you smoke or drink alcohol, how you brush your teeth and about your diet. This is because all these factors have a direct effect on your oral health.

At Woods Dental our health examination includes a fifteen point health check. Expect your dentist to cover the following points:

  • Have we updated your medical health record recently?
  • Does your mouth feel healthy?
  • Do you have any concerns?
  • Are you happy with the appearance of your teeth & smile?
  • Can you eat comfortably- any aches or pains?
  • Mouth lining, tongue and lips
  • Teeth-are they healthy? are they worn?
  • Occlusion (how teeth fit together)
  • Restorations (fillings, crowns)
  • Prosthesis (bridges, crowns, dentures, implants)
  • Presence of plaque (not healthy)
  • Gums-are they healthy?
  • Aesthetics
  • Jaw joint-is it healthy?
  • Radiographs (x-rays of teeth and bone)

Once your oral health examination has been carried out, your dentist will discuss the findings. Options, benefits, risks, alternatives and costs will be discussed. A care plan can be formulated and a written estimate supplied. We may need to follow up with a written consent form.

You do not have to commit to anything discussed during the consultation. You are welcome to take the information away and book further appointments at your leisure.
Our reception team can discuss payments and finance packages – 0% finance is available.
