When away from work Richard has a young family and feels he has to be just as quick as when he did Athletics just to catch up to them. Having always enjoyed sports Richard has now hung up his boots but still actively follows the Ospreys and the Swans, as well as almost any other sports. In his spare time, Richard enjoys travelling, sampling foods and cultures. Richard brings this home and is a keen amateur cook, you never know one day he may even enter Masterchef!!!
Originally from Neath, Chris followed in his brothers’ footsteps and studied dentistry at the University of Bristol (BDS). Following graduation Chris returned to South Wales to pursue his career, starting in a general dental practice and later as a Clinical Assistant in Oral Surgery at Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil. He decided to further his surgical skills and maintained posts as Senior House Officer and then Clinical Fellow in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport. Extensive training at the Royal Gwent Hospital led to Chris being awarded The Diploma in Membership to the Faculty of Dental Surgery Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MFDS RCS), in recognition of the development and depth of his surgical knowledge and skills.
Following the hospital appointments, Chris returned to general practice in 2008, combining his surgical skills with an interest in complex restorative dentistry. This has naturally led to an enthusiasm for placing and restoring dental implants, which marries the surgical and restorative fields of dentistry.
Chris is committed to post graduate education. He has completed a year-long Certificate in Implant Dentistry and studied for the 2-year Diploma programme in Restorative Dentistry with the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Chris is also an Educational Supervisor for Dental Foundation Training and has completed PgCert Dental Education with the University of Bedfordshire. This has enabled Chris to mentor many young dentists and pass on some of his knowledge and experience, as well as his enthusiasm for all aspects of dentistry.
Chris loves to build a rapport with his patients and hopes this comes across in an enthusiastic, caring and approachable manner.
Chris is the proud father to wonderful (and very cheeky) twin girls who occupy most of his free time. In his rare spare time, Chris has a love of the outdoors, particularly enjoying skiing and mountain biking. However, his other hobby is cooking (and subsequently eating). He hopes to get the balance right at some point before his waistline expands too far!
Geraint is originally from Merthyr Tydfil. He qualified from Cardiff Dental School in 1984 initially working in the Oral Surgery department before entering general practice in Cwmbran as an associate. He started his own practice back in Merthyr in 1986, becoming a vocational trainer, mentoring young dentists and developing this to a three dentist and hygienist practice. In 1997 he started working as a clinical assistant in Orthodontics at Prince Charles Hospital and completed the Welsh Postgraduate Orthodontic Training Scheme. Spending more of his Clinical time treating Orthodontic patients, in 2007 he was on the first intake of students on the Diploma in Primary Care Orthodontic Course run by the Royal College of Surgeons and the British Orthodontic Society, qualifying in 2010.
He sold the practice in 2014, and now spends the majority of his working time treating adults and children with fixed, removable and Invisalign braces in several practices. He is married with two grown up children and two dogs. He enjoys gardening, diy, going to rock concerts, often to see groups he grew up listening to ( the numbers of which are decreasing rapidly ! ). On an active note it’s yoga, walking and the occasional ski trip (trying to keep up with the kids and failing), that have taken over from running and karate.
